So here is another Pinterest challenge for me.</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RCNxm9ADDb8/UH2_r4YUNqI/AAAAAAAAA6M/vgWTGNDWu1s/s1600/spool+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" nea="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RCNxm9ADDb8/UH2_r4YUNqI/AAAAAAAAA6M/vgWTGNDWu1s/s400/spool+closeup.jpg" width="308" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://thecreativepatch.blogspot.com/2011/12/sparklin-spool-tree.html">source</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I have a lot of neat old thread spools just sitting around gathering dust and in my quest to either use it or get rid of it I decided I would make some of these cute little trees. I checked through all my stuff and had everything needed to make my own version of these trees. I didn't include a tutorial since she already had a really good one.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I had an old silver tea pot lid that didn't have a tea pot to go under it so I used it for the base of this one.</span><br />

<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I then decided to glitter some of my bottle brush trees and came up with this idea. Love the rust next to the fancy glittery tree.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">This is a true tale of how three different dresses came to be. </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once upon a time there was a young maiden who wished to marry her Prince Charming. She went shopping in the kingdom and found a beautiful gown, all chiffon and satin and lace. She felt so beautiful on her special day, just like the princess in the fairy tales. After the special day they rode off into the sunset, but unfortunately since this is real life, they didn't live happily ever after. (But that is another story.) One day about 28 years later the young maiden, now the mother of another young maiden, pulled out the lovely gown for her sweet daughter to wear on her wedding day. Alas, the dress was so outdated that they decided that the sweet daughter needed to start her own memories and purchase her own beautiful gown for her own special day. The young maiden, now much older wondered what to do with the beautiful gown. Since the sweet daughter would not be wearing it should she donate it to Goodwill? Should she dump it in the nearest dumpster? Lucky for her, she decided to not do either. A year and a half after the Sweet daughter married her own Prince Charming she gave birth to her own sweet daughter. The now not so young maiden decided to take the beautiful gown and cut it down to make a beautiful blessing dress for the newest young maiden. </div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Not So Young Maiden and Princess Emmie</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Not So Young Maiden cut the beautiful fabric that now had mellowed into a lovely ivory color. She sewed the fabric into a lovely dress that all the The Sweet Granddaughters could wear on their blessing days. She even left intact the long ruffle on the bottom. Now to date four Sweet Princesses (Granddaughters) have worn the lovely creation of the Not So Young Maiden.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QRjS5k7Af3o/UICrCz_C7MI/AAAAAAAAA84/rcE18pNEpgQ/s1600/barbie1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QRjS5k7Af3o/UICrCz_C7MI/AAAAAAAAA84/rcE18pNEpgQ/s640/barbie1.JPG" width="412" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Not So Young Maiden put the left over fabric from the original dress in a drawer and forgot all about it. One day as she was cleaning the castle she found the lovely fabric. She tossed it in the throw away bag, but then feeling some remorse, she decided to rescue it. An idea came to her, a way to use the rest of the lovely fabric. She could make her Lovely Granddaughters, now nine through four years old, a beautiful dress for each of their favorite Barbie dolls. (And if you look closely you will see that the Barbie Dress is really a small replica of the Young Maiden's original dress.) <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sIBdg4fdMWg/UICrINyBbuI/AAAAAAAAA9A/566c_dyjE6I/s1600/barbie2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sIBdg4fdMWg/UICrINyBbuI/AAAAAAAAA9A/566c_dyjE6I/s640/barbie2.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this is how the Young Maiden (and all the young maidens in the story) finally was able to live happily ever after. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
THE END</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This truly is a true story, not a fairy tale. Hope you enjoy the dresses as much as I had making them. </div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I ran a long gathering stitch around the whole and gathered it up.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then stuffed it with some polyestered stuffing I had on hand.</span></div>

<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then found some muslin strips I had already torn, how lucky was that? <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Wednesday night our church group got together and made pillowcases to donate to a local charity that helps out homeless children and their families. We bought pillows and made the pillowcases to go on them. They turned out so cute and were so easy that I had to come home and make more. I got a bit carried away and made more. Now my grandchildren will each be getting one for Christmas.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ef5ko_S_nZg/UGiKIfbeKsI/AAAAAAAAA24/TxxXrpjVG8Q/s1600/IMG_2537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ef5ko_S_nZg/UGiKIfbeKsI/AAAAAAAAA24/TxxXrpjVG8Q/s320/IMG_2537.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">You will need:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; line-height: 20px;">3/4 yard (27 inches) of the main fabric</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; line-height: 20px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; line-height: 20px;">1/4 yard (9 inches) of coordinating fabric for the cuff</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; line-height: 20px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; line-height: 20px;">2 inch strip of solid fabric for trim or 44 inch long crochet trim</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;"></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I didn't do a step by step but if you would like a great tutorial you can go </span><a href="http://lovelylittlehandmades.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-magic-pillow-case-tutorial.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">here</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">. As you can see there are no exposed seams, all are enclosed when you sew. Makes them really wear well too. And you can taylor the fabric to the persons interests.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This one is my favorite one so far, it is funny too since I have had this fabric around the house for several years and never really cared for it. Someone gave it to me and I could never think of anything to do with it. This is perfect, just right for my three year old grandson.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-smgc462s80Q/UGiJA6m1FAI/AAAAAAAAA2g/bolxNZsaj7U/s1600/IMG_2534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-smgc462s80Q/UGiJA6m1FAI/AAAAAAAAA2g/bolxNZsaj7U/s400/IMG_2534.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">These are for my granddaughters. I made them each just a bit different so they could tell them apart. Now to make some more superhero ones for the grandsons. Even though I didn't get this idea from Pinterest it is out there so I am counting this as another Pinterest challenge. I haven't kept up on the weekly challenge like I had wanted to, life takes over, but I will try to do at least a monthly one.</span><br />

I have had reasons to not blog, the best was a visit from some very special people. If you check out my granddaughter's dress, I made that for her birthday. She loves it so much her mom said she has to wash it when she is sleeping! So nice to know the dress is loved though.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gep7Wz2EdEc/UFZx0QSQY-I/AAAAAAAAAzQ/kBwG4VITrbg/s1600/Nanna+Poppa.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gep7Wz2EdEc/UFZx0QSQY-I/AAAAAAAAAzQ/kBwG4VITrbg/s400/Nanna+Poppa.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
We had a great time and took the kiddos to Crater Lake. It is so beautifully blue that at times when you take pictures it looks like a backdrop in a photo studio rather than the real lake.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l5Sr1tM6PlE/UFZzFDOx4lI/AAAAAAAAAzY/7hAUSN-Fzoo/s1600/craterlake.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l5Sr1tM6PlE/UFZzFDOx4lI/AAAAAAAAAzY/7hAUSN-Fzoo/s400/craterlake.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This is my oldest son and his wife and children. The youngest is only six months old.<br />
<br />
Well now to the business at hand. I have this awesome old sewing machine cabinet, with an old sewing machine inside as well. It had seen better days and I wanted to update it so it would match the other items that will be in my new craft room. But as a really bad blogger I forgot to take pictures until I was all done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I painted the whole in DIY white chalk paint. Then I sanded and distressed it. After that I put a stain on it but I really hated the way it looked. I know, I should have waxed it first but I was in a hurry to get it done. You can tell since I forgot to take pictures of my steps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Anyway I started drybrushing on white and turquoise paint, here and there and all around. More and more and finally I started liking how it looked.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NmZ326-nc70/UFZz93RCG0I/AAAAAAAAAzw/0mzRipPmOCc/s1600/IMG_2517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NmZ326-nc70/UFZz93RCG0I/AAAAAAAAAzw/0mzRipPmOCc/s320/IMG_2517.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then after some more sanding and some clear wax I was done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KJ_RfvIxiTE/UFZ0AXjIShI/AAAAAAAAAz4/Kczw3glguE4/s1600/IMG_2518.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KJ_RfvIxiTE/UFZ0AXjIShI/AAAAAAAAAz4/Kczw3glguE4/s320/IMG_2518.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I love the way it came out and I love the old pulls. They were pretty dirty so I took some steel wool to them and polished them all up and I love they way they look with the new paint job.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rm3qdQdydrU/UFZz7IMTXvI/AAAAAAAAAzo/ereceMjrt5k/s1600/IMG_2516.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rm3qdQdydrU/UFZz7IMTXvI/AAAAAAAAAzo/ereceMjrt5k/s320/IMG_2516.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I really like how she turned out. Don't you?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_62rEKoysHQ/UFZz4hisSEI/AAAAAAAAAzg/RJqvU76-a9E/s1600/IMG_2515.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_62rEKoysHQ/UFZz4hisSEI/AAAAAAAAAzg/RJqvU76-a9E/s640/IMG_2515.JPG" width="514" /></a></div>
She now is in my soon to be craft room. I can't wait to get that all organized and painted. Or maybe that should be painted and organized. I will be blogging along some of the projects for the craft room so stay tuned, I do have some pretty interesting things in store. And I really do promise to start taking before pictures.<br />

Thanks for stopping back to see how I finished off my small dresser. If you want to see Part 1 you can check it out <a href="http://quirkyquail.blogspot.com/2012/08/child-sized-dresser-redo-part-1.html">here</a>. It turned out pretty cute if I may say so myself. Hard to believe it is the same dresser.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c-cg3m41p6E/UDZAjdR8tbI/AAAAAAAAAww/KSk18Osf_M8/s1600/inside.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c-cg3m41p6E/UDZAjdR8tbI/AAAAAAAAAww/KSk18Osf_M8/s400/inside.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Since she was so old I painted most of the surface inside and out to help preserve the wood.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-26ALyOklWN8/UDZBpaWSgjI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/aKHo5-Q-GCU/s1600/plaiddrawer.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-26ALyOklWN8/UDZBpaWSgjI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/aKHo5-Q-GCU/s400/plaiddrawer.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Using the drawer pulls as inspiration I masked off the outside of the drawers and painted them off white. I then painted them in a pink and turquoise plaid with gold dots at the intersections. I didn't do it too perfectly so it would look a bit old. Sorry for the blurry picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-We9HE3pHSVg/UDZASfjgD1I/AAAAAAAAAwI/4aGLQeUp4wY/s1600/detaildrawer.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-We9HE3pHSVg/UDZASfjgD1I/AAAAAAAAAwI/4aGLQeUp4wY/s400/detaildrawer.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I found some old glass knobs in my stash since all the ones it came with were broken and unusable. I found two that worked well with the small drawers. I at first tried some painted ones, but the vintage glass ones just set it off better.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BTeGdL9rfeo/UDbHrAkbLZI/AAAAAAAAAyg/mHCHjCNofLk/s1600/roughdetail.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BTeGdL9rfeo/UDbHrAkbLZI/AAAAAAAAAyg/mHCHjCNofLk/s320/roughdetail.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Check out the cool texture on the sides as well. Taking a page from <a href="http://missmustardseed.com/2011/09/poor-paint-job/">MMS book</a> I left some of the old paint on and just painted over it. Love the way it looks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NC8WL6TbuoA/UDZAgZKYRsI/AAAAAAAAAwo/dPOY8Hq26sA/s1600/inside+drawer.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NC8WL6TbuoA/UDZAgZKYRsI/AAAAAAAAAwo/dPOY8Hq26sA/s400/inside+drawer.JPG" width="260" /></a></div>
I painted the drawers inside as well, I like the finished look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tYoovOZBEBw/UDZAvVAzReI/AAAAAAAAAxA/Bcp7tf1LZnE/s1600/pagedrawer.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tYoovOZBEBw/UDZAvVAzReI/AAAAAAAAAxA/Bcp7tf1LZnE/s400/pagedrawer.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
What do you do with old books that are falling apart? Use them to line drawers with of course and use the never failing Modge Podge to finish it off. I like a bit more random look so tore some of the pages to give it a bit more movement.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-30GocFgW-m8/UDZAOhQ_NuI/AAAAAAAAAwA/7l6d-VZP7M8/s1600/detail.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-30GocFgW-m8/UDZAOhQ_NuI/AAAAAAAAAwA/7l6d-VZP7M8/s400/detail.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I sanded the edges to give it an older look as well and then went over the whole with some cherry stain. Waxed the whole with MinWax and buffed it out. Got to use what I already have!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is Zeus checking out the finished dresser. He thinks it is pretty nice too.</div>

tah dah it is finally done. I am listing her on Craig's List to see if anyone might wish to give her a home. If not I won't be disappointed, I will keep her for my craft room. And in case you are wondering, this is the picture that is closest to the true color. Thanks stopping by.<br />

If you remember I gave you a preview of the quilt I was working on <a href="http://quirkyquail.blogspot.com/2012/06/memory-quilt-for-granny.html">here</a> for my Mom's 81st birthday. Well I finally finished it and my siblings and I presented it to her at our family reunion. She loved it. She said she had always wanted one so that made all the hard work worth it. I have to warn you there are quite a lot of pictures, but I did want to showcase a few of the quilt blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NmzJXODB6nc/UCuX407j4QI/AAAAAAAAAr0/C-AYVYJ0Wsw/s1600/Mom's+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NmzJXODB6nc/UCuX407j4QI/AAAAAAAAAr0/C-AYVYJ0Wsw/s640/Mom's+quilt.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We each made one or more quilt blocks representing our family. Some did it with pictures, others with pieced blocks. I then used a technique called twist and turn to tie the whole together since all the blocks turned out to be different sizes. I also did something totally different than I have ever done before and that was using the scraps all sewn together to sew around the outside of the quilt. I really liked the different colors used to tie the whole together.<br />
<br />
If you remember I have been giving myself a Pinterest challenge, to use at least one of my pins each week. Well Pinterest came in very handy when I went to finish out this quilt. Not knowing how to properly bind a quilt I went to my go to resource guide and found <a href="http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2009/05/finishing-quilt-tutorial.html">this link</a>. The turorial was so easy to follow I had the quilt bound in no time and it looks really great. Thanks Amy for an easy to follow tutorial.<br />
<br />
Here are a few close ups and a picture of my Mom with her finished quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--Eyh2b9r-7c/UCucnk4eKHI/AAAAAAAAAsY/wgbR3o5S5H8/s1600/IMG_2339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--Eyh2b9r-7c/UCucnk4eKHI/AAAAAAAAAsY/wgbR3o5S5H8/s400/IMG_2339.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
My youngest son Alan and nephew Karsten holding the quilt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U5wWwjyiQG0/UCucw7PMHxI/AAAAAAAAAso/0tJH_PVICuY/s1600/IMG_2342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U5wWwjyiQG0/UCucw7PMHxI/AAAAAAAAAso/0tJH_PVICuY/s400/IMG_2342.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Butterfly Quilt block behind my mom's head represented me. When I was a small girl I always told my mother that I wanted to be a butterfly. Also the hanky it was made from belonged to my father's sister who is now in her late 90s so the block has double significance. It is also another of my pins which you will find <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/271693789989739562/">here</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nbmiFejWBwY/UCwUf_nyNlI/AAAAAAAAAts/ipZuQ9tvxu4/s1600/DSC01584.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nbmiFejWBwY/UCwUf_nyNlI/AAAAAAAAAts/ipZuQ9tvxu4/s400/DSC01584.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here is a close up of said block. I went by Vikki Jo when I was younger, much younger! :-}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c--yWjzk0GU/UCuc08Q6UkI/AAAAAAAAAsw/suy3Md3KIQ0/s1600/IMG_2343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c--yWjzk0GU/UCuc08Q6UkI/AAAAAAAAAsw/suy3Md3KIQ0/s400/IMG_2343.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
My dad was a character and this quilt would not be complete without a representation of him as well. He always wore bib overalls so this square has a piece from his bibs. The picture is of him as a young man when he grew a beard for the Montana centennial.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0tzmtfcoBoI/UCuc4isNTjI/AAAAAAAAAs4/iytBQDjbQbA/s1600/IMG_2344.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0tzmtfcoBoI/UCuc4isNTjI/AAAAAAAAAs4/iytBQDjbQbA/s400/IMG_2344.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cute caricature of my niece Rue and her husband Brice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YOSRZTuQG58/UCwX9UN66bI/AAAAAAAAAuY/4RrXxG-dvT8/s1600/DSC01591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YOSRZTuQG58/UCwX9UN66bI/AAAAAAAAAuY/4RrXxG-dvT8/s400/DSC01591.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
And another pin to represent my husband and I. We have both been divorced and now have a wonderful marriage. I really liked the sentiment so even though the heart I made is a bit different I used the poem and the idea I found <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/271693789990000750/">here</a>. This was my first paper piecing project. If you check the block to the left you can kind of see my nephew all dressed up in my father's old scout uniform. Loved that my sister-in-law included that.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hLGteqp_2x4/UCudAwMlKUI/AAAAAAAAAtI/1yVQSfACXKE/s1600/IMG_2347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hLGteqp_2x4/UCudAwMlKUI/AAAAAAAAAtI/1yVQSfACXKE/s400/IMG_2347.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Quilt block representing my second son and his wife.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RY4381bcefc/UCwYdxoremI/AAAAAAAAAug/gSh6y4DNoy0/s1600/DSC01585.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RY4381bcefc/UCwYdxoremI/AAAAAAAAAug/gSh6y4DNoy0/s400/DSC01585.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
And this one to represent their son. Can you believe she had hardly ever sewed before this?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2cjeoC3YwbU/UCwY0tPXNFI/AAAAAAAAAuo/o-uGb9sScIo/s1600/DSC01593.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2cjeoC3YwbU/UCwY0tPXNFI/AAAAAAAAAuo/o-uGb9sScIo/s400/DSC01593.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Even my 8 year old granddaughter made one. I was very proud of her for doing that. She is learning to sew and loves it. She is going to be just like her Nanna one day.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nlUy3JeQKoc/UCwZMSoNFOI/AAAAAAAAAuw/5sdhCK4CjyY/s1600/DSC01586.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nlUy3JeQKoc/UCwZMSoNFOI/AAAAAAAAAuw/5sdhCK4CjyY/s400/DSC01586.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one was made by my youngest brother's wife. Love the colors. My mother's favorite color is purple and so is mine, I am really loving this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HqlRYD043qI/UCwZVp8TT8I/AAAAAAAAAu4/h6pgpPYOYjA/s1600/DSC01587.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" mda="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HqlRYD043qI/UCwZVp8TT8I/AAAAAAAAAu4/h6pgpPYOYjA/s400/DSC01587.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My oldest brother's wife made these two beautiful blocks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My oldest son's wife made this one with all the handprints in their family. Such a unique idea.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And last but definately not least, the block my daughter did to represent her youngest daughter. Her name is Zaphren, but she calls herself Zappi, she is three and full of energy and noise. Hence what Becky wrote on the block, "The Hills are alive, with the sound of Zappi!" Love the furry sheep. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All in all the quilt was a lot of work for all involved, but will give my mother much enjoyment and isn't that what life is all about? Thanks for taking the time to look at all my pictures.</div>

I have been working on a child sized dresser and let me tell you it has been kind of fun. After doing this I told my husband I think I can fix almost anything. If you had seen it at first you would have said I needed to head straight for the dump with it. And can you believe I actually paid money for it?!? This is what it looked like before and let me tell you the pictures do not show how terrible it really was. The only reason I did buy it was because it is a bit unusual. It stands only 21 1/2" high. I am thinking it will be fun to use in my craft room that I am working on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D8toD8wjjj0/UCmuyZ6DlJI/AAAAAAAAApw/kusxnIeCczg/s1600/IMG_2170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D8toD8wjjj0/UCmuyZ6DlJI/AAAAAAAAApw/kusxnIeCczg/s400/IMG_2170.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Very dirty and nasty with spiders and yucky stuff inside. Worm holes all up and down the sides and inside the drawers. The veneer was all peeling off so it had to be removed. Add to that the top was off and there was no back. And the drawers all needed to be rebuilt. What was I thinking? Then after removing the drawer pulls I realized they were all broken so I couldn't save even one. Lucky for me I had bought some really cute pulls years ago for something else and had never used them. They will be perfect and will be the inspiration for painting the dresser. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lzrMQcd9WWM/UCmu0XzZgCI/AAAAAAAAAp8/dNWCueSMcBk/s1600/IMG_2171.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="282" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lzrMQcd9WWM/UCmu0XzZgCI/AAAAAAAAAp8/dNWCueSMcBk/s400/IMG_2171.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It has a mirrored top, not sure if I will use it or not. I will see how things progress.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pF_sRZBZvvY/UCmvv2j2yNI/AAAAAAAAAqE/3nqhM6onJW8/s1600/IMG_2172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pF_sRZBZvvY/UCmvv2j2yNI/AAAAAAAAAqE/3nqhM6onJW8/s320/IMG_2172.JPG" width="211" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here you can see the sides, really nice huh? I already had peeled off most of the veneer. I usually get carried away and don't wait to take pictures.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5LLy1IwIWvw/UCmv0tl6zVI/AAAAAAAAAqM/W3Y94uAplWg/s1600/IMG_2173.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5LLy1IwIWvw/UCmv0tl6zVI/AAAAAAAAAqM/W3Y94uAplWg/s320/IMG_2173.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All sanded and put back together. Wow I was so proud of myself when I actually could see that it wasn't a lost cause. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gY1Bfc81rS4/UCnGrfRVhzI/AAAAAAAAArA/1M6NlRAlu3A/s1600/IMG_2390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gY1Bfc81rS4/UCnGrfRVhzI/AAAAAAAAArA/1M6NlRAlu3A/s320/IMG_2390.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fSqPp_P25LQ/UCnGvPOAazI/AAAAAAAAArI/ktdKrJo-U6c/s1600/IMG_2391.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fSqPp_P25LQ/UCnGvPOAazI/AAAAAAAAArI/ktdKrJo-U6c/s320/IMG_2391.JPG" width="249" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I painted the dresser turquiose and dry brushed in white.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3vt56z3Qsx0/UCmv7ETFGJI/AAAAAAAAAqc/ETIXJ-BVYv4/s1600/IMG_2244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3vt56z3Qsx0/UCmv7ETFGJI/AAAAAAAAAqc/ETIXJ-BVYv4/s320/IMG_2244.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I puttied the pull holes on the lower drawers to accomadate the new pulls. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EZWrtIvIh70/UCmv3yZQj2I/AAAAAAAAAqU/V0k0UfXLBK4/s1600/IMG_2243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EZWrtIvIh70/UCmv3yZQj2I/AAAAAAAAAqU/V0k0UfXLBK4/s320/IMG_2243.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I taped off the smallest drawers and painted the fronts white. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RB34GM2QrL0/UCnGx6VIjTI/AAAAAAAAArQ/oZsZ2EFak6g/s1600/IMG_2392.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="159" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RB34GM2QrL0/UCnGx6VIjTI/AAAAAAAAArQ/oZsZ2EFak6g/s320/IMG_2392.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These are the drawer pulls that are my inspiration. I will show you how I finish the dresser in my next post.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I just returned from my 40th high school class reunion and boy was that a blast. Couldn't believe 40 years had flown by. Reconnected with some really great friends. Didn't do a Pinterest challenge this week and I am running off to a family reunion this weekend so won't be doing any more until I return. Please check back then for more Pinterest challenges.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Things didn't work out in the beginning the way I had planned. I went to the airport when I thought my flight was, didn't realize my flight had changed, so missed my flight. They were unable to get me another seat on a later flight so I went home very disappointed. My husband who is always upbeat told me to just drive, I had the time. So I hopped in my car and spent a day and a half driving to Montana. So glad I did, it was worth it. So often what we think of as a roadblock is just a detour. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here is the class of 1972, only a little older but much wiser.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TNnfJeb3Mfw/UBlVPvbUA1I/AAAAAAAAAkM/X3gZRT5Vcjg/s1600/me%2540dinner.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TNnfJeb3Mfw/UBlVPvbUA1I/AAAAAAAAAkM/X3gZRT5Vcjg/s320/me%2540dinner.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We had great dinner up in the Mountains at the ski resort, Bridger Bowl, Bozeman, MT. I hadn't been up there in 39 years. What a beautiful setting. Had a great time reconnecting with a lot of great people.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
This was one of my favorite teachers, Mr. Campeau. He taught art for many years and always wore a bow tie. I asked him where his tie was and he told me that he now only wears them to funerals.<br />
<br />
<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0iSg-TiRu60/UAv7sGIck7I/AAAAAAAAAhM/sYHbYgrG9os/s1600/IMG_2241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0iSg-TiRu60/UAv7sGIck7I/AAAAAAAAAhM/sYHbYgrG9os/s320/IMG_2241.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been wanting to do this for sometime and finally was able to find enough broken crayons to make them. Our library at church was cleaning out all the old broken crayons.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L9bn_i1hGU4/UAv7axLsmjI/AAAAAAAAAgs/V3TALI8xstE/s1600/IMG_2237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L9bn_i1hGU4/UAv7axLsmjI/AAAAAAAAAgs/V3TALI8xstE/s320/IMG_2237.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Being a Nanna I don't have crayons all over the house like I used to when I had little ones. So I grabbed these and there were a lot. Yay! I found the instructions <a href="http://www.sueniosencantados.com/blog/2010/08/make-your-own-crayons/">here</a>.<br />
Preheat your oven to 250 degrees and be sure to spray your tin with some Pam or oil them. Put the broken crayons in the pan and leave in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. Check on them and remove as soon as they are all melted. I freaked a bit when after they cooled they wouldn't come out of the pan. Then I thought to put them in the freezer for a few minutes and they popped right out. Just be sure to put a towel down since I broke a couple as they came out on the counter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9uoS5icPBfw/UAv7V4hZKpI/AAAAAAAAAgk/mqLdOj0L-k4/s1600/IMG_2236.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9uoS5icPBfw/UAv7V4hZKpI/AAAAAAAAAgk/mqLdOj0L-k4/s320/IMG_2236.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For my first batch I just put the crayons in willy nilly (yes that is a word). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GO9eDjPyP7k/UAv7jqyOK3I/AAAAAAAAAg8/1Kr3Rt5ew04/s1600/IMG_2239.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GO9eDjPyP7k/UAv7jqyOK3I/AAAAAAAAAg8/1Kr3Rt5ew04/s320/IMG_2239.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They didn't turn out too bad but I thought they were a bit muddy looking.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b1_BulGLBvY/UAv7faOEBoI/AAAAAAAAAg0/nUOf_W19HyQ/s1600/IMG_2238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b1_BulGLBvY/UAv7faOEBoI/AAAAAAAAAg0/nUOf_W19HyQ/s320/IMG_2238.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I decided to sort them a bit better and put them in color families.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_c3SVHk_jV8/UAv7nJjYXTI/AAAAAAAAAhE/c054ntdWInQ/s1600/IMG_2240.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_c3SVHk_jV8/UAv7nJjYXTI/AAAAAAAAAhE/c054ntdWInQ/s320/IMG_2240.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They turned out much better the second way, see how pretty they are. And through the magic of my blog the round tin produced hearts! Actually I forgot to take a picture of the before in the heart shaped pan which I decided to use since the round ones were a bit boring. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0iSg-TiRu60/UAv7sGIck7I/AAAAAAAAAhM/sYHbYgrG9os/s1600/IMG_2241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0iSg-TiRu60/UAv7sGIck7I/AAAAAAAAAhM/sYHbYgrG9os/s320/IMG_2241.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now they look good enough to eat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">Just a side note. I took these to church Sunday for my three year old Primary class and they didn't like them. I am not really sure why. I did notice that one of the little boys kept breaking his apart so maybe it was a bit foreign for them. I am not sure if older children would like them. I am giving some to my grandchildren this weekend when we visit and I will keep you posted.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VXfkiDPI27Y/UAv_29dLFrI/AAAAAAAAAhY/ObtaT1zfwQ8/s1600/IMG_2170_1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VXfkiDPI27Y/UAv_29dLFrI/AAAAAAAAAhY/ObtaT1zfwQ8/s320/IMG_2170_1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just a peek at what I have been working on and will let you all see as soon as it is finished.</div>

The next item up for my Pinterest challenge are these cute fabric flowers that I made to match the skirts from <a href="http://quirkyquail.blogspot.com/2012/06/pinterest-challenge.html">Pinterest challenge #1</a>. My inspiration came from this <a href="http://prudentbaby.com/2010/02/baby-kid/diy-fabric-flower-hair-clip-2/">site</a>.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So quick and fun to make. My friend Sam and I enjoyed creating them. I think our granddaughters will agree, they are very cute. Now just to see the granddaughters in them. They all live so far away, the closest is in Seattle, a seven hour drive, makes for a sad Nanna.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Jacinda has a really good tutorial so I didn't add one here. I didn't use covered buttons, just regular buttons I already on hand.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Double Layer</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also I did a variation and used two fabrics, making the larger layer from 2 1/2" circles.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cute on a Jean Jacket</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I also decided to make some of these as pins for friends. I cut these 3" and double layered them with 2 1/2" circles for the top layer. In the center I used large buttons and vintage earrings to finish them off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On the back I hot glued a piece of felt and then a pin back. I glued a smaller piece over the pin to finish it off.<br />
I really enjoyed making these as you can see, I almost couldn't stop. This is a good way to use up some of the smaller scraps in your stash and make some great gifts as well. I am trying to use only items I already have on hand for my Pinterest Challenges and for this one I only had to buy the hair clips. I had a hard time finding them in our area, but finally found them at Sally's.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7hIe8BbKrAk/UALhJWcokjI/AAAAAAAAAfY/5E3LRx5cc98/s1600/all.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7hIe8BbKrAk/UALhJWcokjI/AAAAAAAAAfY/5E3LRx5cc98/s320/all.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I decided I would give the lucky winner of my giveaway one of these pins, along with a few other items such as some of my organic lavender. Just choose which pin you would like. I am extending the giveaway until the end of July so just leave me a comment <a href="http://quirkyquail.blogspot.com/2012/07/herb-swag-and-my-blogversary-giveaway.html">here</a> and tell me which pin you would like if you win and make sure you follow me as well. And if you don't win and would like to purchase one, they are for sale in my etsy shop.<br />

I can't believe it, I am not only on my third Pinterest Challenge, but Wednesday is my blogversary! Scroll down to the bottom for more on that. Now back to the challenge. I saw this <a href="http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/herbal-swag/?pkey=cwreaths-trees%7Cdecwrewre">here</a>.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Inspiration.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I really loved the swag, but not the price tag. I grow lavender, rosemary and oregano in my garden so I just went out and picked some. I layered the different herbs until I liked the way they looked, then wrapped a bit of raffia around the top and hung it up in my kitchen. It doesn't quite look the same, but like it and I can snip a bit off when I need it. Fast and easy challenge and best of all it was FREE! Now I want to grow more herbs so I can make larger swags.<br />

Now onto the most important part of this post. It has been a whole year since I have been blogging. I started July 10, 2011 and feel like I don't know much more than when I started. But there have been some really helpful people out there who have given me a few pointers, now just to impliment them.<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">

I know most people have a giveaway on their blogversary and I think that is a fun thing as well. So here goes. I am not sure what I am giving away just yet, but it will be fun. I am working on some fabric pins so you will get one of those plus a few other goodies. Check out the pins <a href="http://quirkyquail.blogspot.com/2012/06/pinterest-hair-flowers.html">here</a>. 1- Become a follower and leave me a message telling me that you are.<br />
<br />
And/Or<br />
<br />
2- Check out my Etsy shop <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/QuirkyQuail?ref=ss_profile">here </a>and leave me a message telling me what your favorite item is.<br />

Pinterest Challenge #2<br />
Well here I am with Week #2 of my self imposed Pinterest challenge. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since the 4th is Wednesday I wanted to make something special to share with a few friends and of course for myself. I found these cute pins on <a href="http://www.thescrapshoppeblog.com/2012/06/mini-patriotic-wreath-pin.html">this site</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TtJXfG7dV84/T_dRjL-e4CI/AAAAAAAAAdk/cLuNNmS_fmI/s1600/Patriotic+Wreath+Pin+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" sca="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TtJXfG7dV84/T_dRjL-e4CI/AAAAAAAAAdk/cLuNNmS_fmI/s320/Patriotic+Wreath+Pin+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what her's looked like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5zaauIn37Xs/T_DtY5wacuI/AAAAAAAAAcI/dqGOHbVexn8/s1600/IMG_2156.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5zaauIn37Xs/T_DtY5wacuI/AAAAAAAAAcI/dqGOHbVexn8/s320/IMG_2156.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Since I am all about using only what I have on hand I decided to check through my stash to see what I could come up with. I didn't have any burlap so I used dropcloth fabric for the white and red pindot fabric for the red.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cXl3N9EIEU0/T_DtdDN9HQI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/yif6_HiZ8ow/s1600/IMG_2157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cXl3N9EIEU0/T_DtdDN9HQI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/yif6_HiZ8ow/s320/IMG_2157.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I drew out the circles, I found that was easier than cutting in squares and then into freehand circles. I also cut 3" circles out of thin cardboard, with a 1 1/2" circle cut out of the center.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SEEYDVDqEog/T_DthzNGTYI/AAAAAAAAAcY/5HRDcfAcKjs/s1600/IMG_2158.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SEEYDVDqEog/T_DthzNGTYI/AAAAAAAAAcY/5HRDcfAcKjs/s320/IMG_2158.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Next I cut strips of 1/2" denim and covered the cardboard circles with strips of it, secured with hot glue. I then folded the circles of fabric in quarters and secured them with a drop of hot glue just to hold it in place. The red fabric was a bit too thin so I used two circles together to make them a bit more substancial.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tXnCvR44muo/T_Dtmemf7VI/AAAAAAAAAck/_aTqksX8X3E/s1600/IMG_2159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tXnCvR44muo/T_Dtmemf7VI/AAAAAAAAAck/_aTqksX8X3E/s320/IMG_2159.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Glue four of the blue pieces on in one corner.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BJ5RPvwgx_Q/T_DtrJ6DV9I/AAAAAAAAAcs/ujXoO-jwpW4/s1600/IMG_2160.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BJ5RPvwgx_Q/T_DtrJ6DV9I/AAAAAAAAAcs/ujXoO-jwpW4/s320/IMG_2160.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then alternate with the red and white fabric. Five white, four red.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WYuwoYTwtNs/T_DtuiES_HI/AAAAAAAAAc4/BOZQjbYCdIg/s1600/IMG_2161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WYuwoYTwtNs/T_DtuiES_HI/AAAAAAAAAc4/BOZQjbYCdIg/s320/IMG_2161.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now it is all filled in, if you find gaps just add another piece until it is how you like it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QUZ3PlhHM38/T_Dtzu8hXJI/AAAAAAAAAdA/2pvnSSJDOrY/s1600/IMG_2166.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QUZ3PlhHM38/T_Dtzu8hXJI/AAAAAAAAAdA/2pvnSSJDOrY/s320/IMG_2166.JPG" width="296" /></a></div>
Of course you need stars so I added randomly placed white buttons on the blue pieces. I forgot to take a picture of the back, but I glued a pin back on and covered it with a small piece of denim to give it a finished look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bseml9WTo7g/T_Dt3nepACI/AAAAAAAAAdM/NqGZxLyPuHI/s1600/IMG_2167.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bseml9WTo7g/T_Dt3nepACI/AAAAAAAAAdM/NqGZxLyPuHI/s320/IMG_2167.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And there you have it, the finished pin. Thanks Michelle for such a great tutorial.<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iBi5vXYKAbM/T_Dt7LBO4TI/AAAAAAAAAdU/GfuTCAbUg0I/s1600/IMG_2195.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iBi5vXYKAbM/T_Dt7LBO4TI/AAAAAAAAAdU/GfuTCAbUg0I/s320/IMG_2195.JPG" width="281" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
And here I am ready to celebrate in style. I really like how big they are. At first I thought they were a bit too big, but I love how they seem to make a statement. Looks great on a denium jacket.</div>

I am giving myself a Pinterest challenge. Like a lot of you, I am a Pinterest Junkie. I have 83 boards and 5407 pins but never seem to get any of them finished or try out any of the ideas on there, so I am giving myself a challenge to complete or try one item I have pinned each week.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My first challenge was to make some cute ruffled skirts for my granddaughters. I found this great tutorial <a href="http://grandrevivaldesign.typepad.com/grand_revival_design/2007/10/ruffled-skirt-t.html">here</a>.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zHwQzDJaMKM/T_dSiwWzbBI/AAAAAAAAAds/zLkRg6sn_0w/s1600/ruffles.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" sca="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zHwQzDJaMKM/T_dSiwWzbBI/AAAAAAAAAds/zLkRg6sn_0w/s320/ruffles.bmp" width="164" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My inspiration.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I started out with just some fabric I had on hand.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rl9BOVINArY/T-fYEfZMOiI/AAAAAAAAAbU/WDOEOkWUQ2A/s1600/IMG_2151.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rl9BOVINArY/T-fYEfZMOiI/AAAAAAAAAbU/WDOEOkWUQ2A/s320/IMG_2151.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0FHlDM8TS0/T-fYHkp3diI/AAAAAAAAAbc/2oFoJdIOWbg/s1600/IMG_2152.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0FHlDM8TS0/T-fYHkp3diI/AAAAAAAAAbc/2oFoJdIOWbg/s320/IMG_2152.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dDSZ127f-2A/T-fYPfAr1aI/AAAAAAAAAbs/c4pB-B2PIuQ/s1600/IMG_2154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dDSZ127f-2A/T-fYPfAr1aI/AAAAAAAAAbs/c4pB-B2PIuQ/s320/IMG_2154.JPG" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These are the skirts I created. Tanya's directions were very good, the only thing I would suggest is that you need to cut two of each size that she mentions. Anyone who is an experienced seamstress will know this right off, but those who are not may not know that until too late. Also I used a 1/2" seam instead of the 1/4" she suggested so if you do that you need to add 1/4" to all the measurements. I like a bit larger seam since sometimes if it is too small it can tear through.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I got these cute tags online from Pick Your Plum. Makes the skirts so much more special for my little granddaughters. I really enjoyed making these little skirts, they were so fast and easy and I could use up fabric I already had onhand. It was kind of fun trying different combinations. I think the next time I sew one I will try three different fabrics. Can't wait to see them on my little granddaughters.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had a fun time and now off to create something else. Hummmmm wonder which one I will make next?<br />

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Wow it has been a long time since my last entry. I have had a busy couple of months. Hopefully I will be able to post more often now.<br />
<br />
My siblings and I are putting together a quilt for my mother to celebrate her 81st birthday. Each of my siblings and as many grandchildren as wanted to sent me a quilt block and I set them into the quilt using a twist and turn method. My dear friend Linda suggested this since the quilt blocks were not all the same size. I also added a border using all the different fabrics, this is something different which I had never tried before. Linda will be quilting it for me and I will post again when I get it back. I am really happy with the result, I think my mother will love it as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ynAWs7sIZcg/T9k77ZlEX6I/AAAAAAAAAa8/PZ6W8sRJiCk/s1600/quilt2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ynAWs7sIZcg/T9k77ZlEX6I/AAAAAAAAAa8/PZ6W8sRJiCk/s400/quilt2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is a bit of a close up. The center block is made up from my father's bib overalls which he always wore. He passed away seven years ago and I wanted to also include him in the quilt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, but I was in a rush to get the quilt done and off to be quilted. Need time to get it back and bound before our family reunion in August.</div>

Happy Dance. It has taken me way too long to finish this project. But in my defence, I have had many other things going on in my life. Two babies born, trips must be made to spoil said babies, gift also must be made for beautiful babies. Love my babies. Anyway on to the rest of the post.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cYMVTsekDzg/T3dwSqKLVlI/AAAAAAAAAYM/S8HrNCRaraw/s1600/IMG_1691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cYMVTsekDzg/T3dwSqKLVlI/AAAAAAAAAYM/S8HrNCRaraw/s320/IMG_1691.JPG" width="262" /></a></div><br />
I originally had planned on covering this chair in drop cloth fabric, but then found this awesome fabric at Joanne's with 50% off so was affordable. Then I was going to trim it in an off white gimp but found the black in my stash and after doing it decided it was too much. However, after living with it for awhile decided I made the right choice, I love the contrast. Hope you do too.<br />

Can't figure out where the time has gone. But have had two grandsons and visited one since my last post. Now off to visit the second one. I have been working hard on this chair. It has not been an easy piece. I really thought it would just take me a just a few days and would be finished. The painting was the easy part. I bought it at a yardsale and the person I bought it from had taken all the fabric off to redo it herself and then didn't. So I did not have any way of knowing how to put it together again. So a word to the wise, always save the fabric when you take a chair apart and take notes on how it was put together to save yourself all the stress.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Just to refresh your memory, this is what it looked like before:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hPMAAu4NKVw/T2Vl50N037I/AAAAAAAAASs/f5kEMiplitw/s1600/before1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hPMAAu4NKVw/T2Vl50N037I/AAAAAAAAASs/f5kEMiplitw/s320/before1.JPG" width="247" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Some of you said you thought I should remove the old seat and stuffing and replace it. So glad I took your advice. Under this nasty thing I found,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-veboKwAYMHg/T2Vq74xSP5I/AAAAAAAAAW8/xmD6iHu3m70/s1600/old+lining.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-veboKwAYMHg/T2Vq74xSP5I/AAAAAAAAAW8/xmD6iHu3m70/s320/old+lining.JPG" width="261" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This nasty thing. Some kind of grass or straw. And full of dust and who knows what else. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hPMAAu4NKVw/T2Vl50N037I/AAAAAAAAASs/f5kEMiplitw/s1600/before1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GORMf0jvffc/T2VrAwVRtZI/AAAAAAAAAXE/uOFZeQupXtc/s1600/old+padding.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GORMf0jvffc/T2VrAwVRtZI/AAAAAAAAAXE/uOFZeQupXtc/s320/old+padding.JPG" width="258" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> On top of this layer was some really nasty cotton batting, that grey stuff, which was also full of dust. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-scEbi2AdPlQ/T2Z2siDvPtI/AAAAAAAAAXc/HviaE_8K98w/s1600/burlap+seat.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-scEbi2AdPlQ/T2Z2siDvPtI/AAAAAAAAAXc/HviaE_8K98w/s320/burlap+seat.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">And under it all was this nasty looking burlap with the springs poking through.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Into the trash with it all and on with some new foam and batting.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zGmbgMWowIw/T2Z21yT2ieI/AAAAAAAAAXs/PBGHXGPrFQc/s1600/foam.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zGmbgMWowIw/T2Z21yT2ieI/AAAAAAAAAXs/PBGHXGPrFQc/s320/foam.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I used 2" foam and cut it out with a serrated knife, a bit larger than I thought I would need. Just in case I got it a bit small so I did have to do a bit of trimming, but that is always better to have it a little too big than too small.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o4xuze2LfWA/T2Z27KaGHfI/AAAAAAAAAX0/IuV1kXHglvc/s1600/new+padding.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o4xuze2LfWA/T2Z27KaGHfI/AAAAAAAAAX0/IuV1kXHglvc/s320/new+padding.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I then added quilt batting over the foam to give it a bit more softness and to protect the foam.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V7Hm4r5VMK4/T2Z2_botDiI/AAAAAAAAAX8/Q1xF5F2GwoM/s1600/w%253Abatting.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V7Hm4r5VMK4/T2Z2_botDiI/AAAAAAAAAX8/Q1xF5F2GwoM/s320/w%253Abatting.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Tacked that down with a few staples. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7befO7q78SU/T2Z2xb6yVyI/AAAAAAAAAXk/GDqRhvEIGlk/s1600/chair+almost+done.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7befO7q78SU/T2Z2xb6yVyI/AAAAAAAAAXk/GDqRhvEIGlk/s320/chair+almost+done.JPG" width="271" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Then on to the fabric. I got this great fabric at JoAnn's at 50% off with another 10% total purchase coupon. So it didn't cost too much. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PPRZFu3kAhA/T2Z2nv8yxrI/AAAAAAAAAXU/cml4Vj_TsTk/s1600/almost+done.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PPRZFu3kAhA/T2Z2nv8yxrI/AAAAAAAAAXU/cml4Vj_TsTk/s320/almost+done.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">So far the hardest part has been figuring out how to put the back on. I have gotten this far and will post the finished product very soon, I promise. The biggest obstacle I am running into with this chair is the fact that the wood is very old and very brittle. I have broken a few chips out of the back stapling the fabric on. There isn't much space and with all the staples it is a real problem. I am hoping to figure out how to finish it off without breaking it further. So if any of you have any great suggestions I would love to hear them. I have checked out numerous websites such as MMS and feel I am heading in the right direction.</div><br />

We have another sweet grandchild. Oliver was born on Feb 7. He weighed almost seven pounds and was 19" long.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;"> And he came a whole 10 days early! He is beautiful as all babies are and looks just like his daddy. I finally finished the last painting for him so I can take them all with me when I travel to meet the new little guy. This makes grandchild #11.</span></div>

I got sidetracked by a project requested by my sweet DIL in LA, who is due to have our sweet grandson next month. These are two of four paintings she requested. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KNp7I0o18Pw/Tx98PlXtR2I/AAAAAAAAAR0/0x03UrZ31Y4/s1600/IMG_1520.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KNp7I0o18Pw/Tx98PlXtR2I/AAAAAAAAAR0/0x03UrZ31Y4/s400/IMG_1520.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>She has decorated the nursery in Owls so she wanted Nanna to paint some for her. I can't wait to meet the new little one. She is not the only DIL who is expecting. We will be having another sweet grandson born to our son in Seattle. The cousins will be born within days of each other. What are the odds? And at different ends of the country too. Poor Nanna won't know which direction to go first.<br />

I am not as good a blogger as most, but I am trying to post more often but don't always have a project finished. That is why I thought maybe I would post a half finished project. I have had this French chair in my garage for at least three years awaiting her turn to be made over. <br />
Here is my favorite Christmas insight of the year.<br />
"The Bible states that the wise men, having found the Christ, went home another way. So should we, after having found the Savior, return to our homes, families, and work another way. We should be different people, forever changed by the experience of turning our lives over to the Savior."<br />
<br />
I am so grateful for the blessings of health, love, peace, and prosperity that my family enjoys. Thank you for being part of my life and sharing in the journey I make as I try to make my home a better place.vikkihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06055887032215823433noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-51000203140255824.post-40701517740175784482011-12-18T20:27:00.000-08:002012-01-02T07:53:41.210-08:00Little Rocker for the New Little Prince<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7uK0XMwZcTA/Tu6sDmcgjAI/AAAAAAAAAPA/hXJ8mtCvn44/s1600/crown1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7uK0XMwZcTA/Tu6sDmcgjAI/AAAAAAAAAPA/hXJ8mtCvn44/s320/crown1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My son and his wife are having their first baby and I wanted to make something very special for the new little guy. I found this childs rocker at a yard sale and got the ultimate bargain. Can you believe it? I paid only a quarter for him!! Unbelievable. Here is the before in all his nastieness.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EnGTsERDulc/Tun5x4PlMjI/AAAAAAAAAOo/PCLO8Bm4zow/s1600/prince+rocker.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EnGTsERDulc/Tun5x4PlMjI/AAAAAAAAAOo/PCLO8Bm4zow/s320/prince+rocker.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Sorry I got all excited about redoing and took off the rockers before I remembered to take a picture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s-XimWqlKhg/Tun51yoTXVI/AAAAAAAAAOw/jyoKfNywgEk/s1600/prince+rocker2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s-XimWqlKhg/Tun51yoTXVI/AAAAAAAAAOw/jyoKfNywgEk/s320/prince+rocker2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Lovely worn vinyl covering. And when I took it apart it was unbelievably dirty. Yuck.</div><div style="text-align: center;">I had to take the entire piece apart and then put it back together. This was much harder than you would think since it was put together with long nails and screws. I couldn't believe how much work it was to recover such a small piece. I am going to redo my wingback chairs so this was a practice run. Now I am rethinking it though until I have about a week off from work to devote to the job.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EldSDSLciew/Tu6sHSz7G7I/AAAAAAAAAPI/bElg69GrDmw/s1600/crown2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EldSDSLciew/Tu6sHSz7G7I/AAAAAAAAAPI/bElg69GrDmw/s320/crown2.JPG" width="282" /></a></div>Finally finished. I covered it with Miss Mustard Seed's go to fabric, drop cloth from Lowes. Then went to the Graphics Fairy and found this cute crown to put on the back. Sorry it is a bit off to one side, but I discovered that after it was all put together and I didn't have the energy to take it all back apart to fix it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JMYLalixcTk/Tu6sLBGudzI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/3eMFr4xYAR4/s1600/crown4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JMYLalixcTk/Tu6sLBGudzI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/3eMFr4xYAR4/s320/crown4.JPG" width="217" /></a></div>I had some vintage decorative tacks to finish off the sides and back. Not sure how old they are, but the package was originally 19 cents so that dates it a bit. Got them from my mom several years back when she was moving and knew they would come in handy eventually. Didn't have enough to put them real close together but like the look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MyrKQUiqtwg/Tu6sP3oqqaI/AAAAAAAAAPY/9rEa0jhbEPc/s1600/crown5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MyrKQUiqtwg/Tu6sP3oqqaI/AAAAAAAAAPY/9rEa0jhbEPc/s320/crown5.JPG" width="266" /></a></div> I painted the rockers with DIY chalk paint in ivory and slightly distressed them and then waxed them with Minwax. I finally got my decorations up and will be posting some of what I have done. I have had so many projects going on this month I haven't been able to post, but the projects are getting finally done. I am hoping to be able to rest the week before Christmas and just bake cookies. I will post some of the finished projects later. I know I should have posted my trees and my mantle separately but since this is my one shot before Christmas to get this posted I did it all in one, so please forgive me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HGCtGsuG4Fo/TugOwj0fXiI/AAAAAAAAANA/j6S0DvwBEcY/s1600/IMG_1405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="528" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HGCtGsuG4Fo/TugOwj0fXiI/AAAAAAAAANA/j6S0DvwBEcY/s640/IMG_1405.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My mantle is dressed mostly in silver and white although I did leave my clocks up so there is a bit of gold thrown in as well. I made my husbands stocking from old blue jeans with a fleece cuff, made that the first year we were married. My stocking was obtained from a crafts faire and was made from a vintage coat with mink trim and tails. One big splurg three years ago. The Peace stocking holders are from Hobby Lobby bought at clearance last year. There is no Hobby Lobby here so my sweet sister sent them to me. She is always helping me out that way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QeEMRcDY42M/TugPYOiwYAI/AAAAAAAAAOI/2sn-h2HApYc/s1600/mantle.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QeEMRcDY42M/TugPYOiwYAI/AAAAAAAAAOI/2sn-h2HApYc/s400/mantle.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Santa is one that our dear DIL sent us from Germany three years ago when our son was stationed there in the army. The reindeer is from Pier 1 two years ago. Not sure where the silver trees came from, but probably from Michaels last year on clearance and the clocks are all gifts or yard sale finds. If you know anything about me you will know I love clocks and have collected them for years. I also love antique mirrors and there are two of them on my mantle. The white one was found in an old barn.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JskqZxixh5s/TugPmCZf5YI/AAAAAAAAAOg/WEdVnHX2-Ew/s1600/santa+tree.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JskqZxixh5s/TugPmCZf5YI/AAAAAAAAAOg/WEdVnHX2-Ew/s400/santa+tree.JPG" width="255" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my Santa tree that I set up in my atrium. It is full of vintage and handmade Santas. The small sleigh is full of vintage ornaments bought a few at a time at the exellent yard sales we have around here.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rSl3VN7P59c/TugPgnEkcsI/AAAAAAAAAOY/Uv-Nnyg2lZ0/s1600/pineconesanta.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rSl3VN7P59c/TugPgnEkcsI/AAAAAAAAAOY/Uv-Nnyg2lZ0/s640/pineconesanta.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This little guy is about 50 years old and I am the only owner. My sister bought him for me when we were children and he has always been one of my treasures. He lives in a display case most of the year, but at Christmas he gets to hang on the tree. One year one of my sons threw a football through the tree and broke him, but I managed to fix him and he is no less for the wear.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rpurn3dohR0/TugOqno1XYI/AAAAAAAAAM4/Ksz6iWRmBgI/s1600/germansanta.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rpurn3dohR0/TugOqno1XYI/AAAAAAAAAM4/Ksz6iWRmBgI/s640/germansanta.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This little guy was purchased at a yard sale and I was told he was a German Santa and was at least 50 years old as well. There were three of them and I kick myself for not buying all three, what was I thinking?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-stFv9Du7Zvk/TugO8xMZK9I/AAAAAAAAANY/1L8BI4L1_H8/s1600/IMG_1409.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-stFv9Du7Zvk/TugO8xMZK9I/AAAAAAAAANY/1L8BI4L1_H8/s640/IMG_1409.JPG" width="348" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My main tree all decked out in silver and white, for the most part anyway. I have silver fabric draped beneath for the skirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ubeyY9NeAzc/TugPI39E2eI/AAAAAAAAANo/peTetTX8dd8/s1600/IMG_1411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ubeyY9NeAzc/TugPI39E2eI/AAAAAAAAANo/peTetTX8dd8/s640/IMG_1411.JPG" width="488" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found this cute idea on Pinterest and made about a dozen of them to hang on the tree. Very fun to make. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-naBkSQsx4C8/TugPFmucBmI/AAAAAAAAANg/YO_IdfapQ6o/s1600/IMG_1410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-naBkSQsx4C8/TugPFmucBmI/AAAAAAAAANg/YO_IdfapQ6o/s400/IMG_1410.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I tucked vintage postcards between the branches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nZtRwDNItJk/TugOneY1WmI/AAAAAAAAAMw/wE8w7G6XGPk/s1600/baby+shoe.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nZtRwDNItJk/TugOneY1WmI/AAAAAAAAAMw/wE8w7G6XGPk/s400/baby+shoe.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also an old baby shoe I had made into a pincushion and I thought it might look cute hanging out on the tree.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SisCfb29WtQ/TugPLldf0uI/AAAAAAAAANw/xQv6d7Sy970/s1600/IMG_1412.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="381" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SisCfb29WtQ/TugPLldf0uI/AAAAAAAAANw/xQv6d7Sy970/s400/IMG_1412.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-trxwql3ptMk/TugPOpmTyOI/AAAAAAAAAN4/RN4vjKKOiYc/s1600/IMG_1413.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-trxwql3ptMk/TugPOpmTyOI/AAAAAAAAAN4/RN4vjKKOiYc/s400/IMG_1413.JPG" width="395" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My chandy lighted and unlighted. I hung more of my vintage ornaments from it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gvd5AXMqOIM/TugO3wcSHKI/AAAAAAAAANQ/6WFvDzjTlLE/s1600/IMG_1408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gvd5AXMqOIM/TugO3wcSHKI/AAAAAAAAANQ/6WFvDzjTlLE/s400/IMG_1408.JPG" width="351" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a puzzle my sister gave me one year that I framed and hang up every year. Love it, I never tire of seeing it, in fact if I could get away with it, I would leave him hanging there all year. You will have to excuse the reflection of the lights from the tree in the picture, but I am too lazy to go back and take another picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vfV4l2PPRIg/TugO1PCDKnI/AAAAAAAAANI/2Z2WZg9gqAk/s1600/IMG_1407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="500" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vfV4l2PPRIg/TugO1PCDKnI/AAAAAAAAANI/2Z2WZg9gqAk/s640/IMG_1407.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last but not least in my elf on a shelf, he never really goes anywhere since there are no small children here, but I do love him. Also my snowman I bought at a crafts faire several years ago and the sign that says it all. I hope all of you will build those memories this wonderful Christmas season that will have us all "still believing." Merry Christmas my friends.<br />
